How To Break Free From Your Past

Yesterday was Memorial Day here in the United States. It’s a day when we look back over our past and remember all of the brave service men and women who died serving in the US military to protect the freedoms we all enjoy. I can’t tell you how thankful I am for these people because without them, things would be vastly different.

Anyway, Memorial Day always makes me think about the past, both my past and the past of all the people who have somehow made it into my life for a time or two. I’ve sometimes felt trapped by my past, but along the way, I learned how to be free from it.

How to Break Free From Your Past

If you believe The Law of Attraction is real and is always working whether you realize it or not, you can conceivably say that you have attracted every single person who has come into your life, both the good and the bad. Maybe some of these people have stayed around for years. Maybe some of them have only been around for just a little while.

The point is you attracted them because you needed them and they you and the Universe brought you together. There are no coincidences.

When I used to look back, I’d wonder why certain types of people kept showing up. Some were the most demeaning and toxic friendships or relationships I have ever been in. Back then, I’d do my damnedest to try to understand why and I never could figure it out. That was until I learned about the Law of Attraction.

With my new knowledge, I realize that it was me and my core beliefs at the time about who I am and what I deserved in a friendship or relationship which attracted them.

See, back in the day I had very low self esteem and self worth. I felt I didn’t deserve to have nice friends or a good boyfriend because I didn’t value myself much. As a result, I ended up in some very bad relationships with people who did not treat me well. Sadly, when these types of toxic people would show up, I would do everything I could to keep the friendship or relationship going because  I didn’t believe I deserved better.

Seriously, it was messed up!

Deep down in my heart though, I knew I deserved better friends and relationships and thankfully I was able to escape most of these entanglements without much damage to my self worth and self esteem.

So how does this relate to the Law of Attraction?

How You Feel About Yourself Will Attract People Into Your Life Who Will Confirm Those Beliefs

If you believe you deserve to be surrounded by people who love you and what the best for you at the highest level, then you will be.  If you believe you are worthy of a healthy relationship, the Universe will bring you just that; Someone you can have a healthy relationship with.

If you believe you aren’t worthy and you feel bad about yourself, the Universe will bring you people who just confirm that belief for you. Sounds crazy, but it’s true.

You ever meet someone who’s been in relationship after relationship with the same sort of man or woman? They just keep attracting the same sort of person again and again and then they wonder why.

I had a friend once who seemed to attract nothing but drug addicts, alcoholics and abusers. I used to shake my head back then, but now I understand what was going on. My friend had no self worth whatsoever and would lament and whine about how she was ‘never good enough, not pretty enough, not rich enough, etc…’ to attract a decent man. Her belief in what she was attracted people, men especially, who would just confirm and strengthen her beliefs about herself.

What can we learn here?

Everyone is Worthy

First thing I want everyone to learn is that they are worthy of healthy relationships. Everyone deserves to have a cadre of friends who love and support them.  When I say everyone, I mean EVERYONE. I mean you too!

Forgive Yourself

Secondly, if you’ve made some bad choices in friends or relationships, forgive yourself. You can’t change your past. Today is a new day to change your beliefs about yourself and what you want. Don’t beat yourself up about the past.

Limit Time Spent With Toxic People

I’d love to say end all of your bad relationships now which is sometimes easier said than done. What you can do, however, is limit your time with them. As you strengthen your beliefs in yourself and raise your self esteem and self worth, you’ll find many of your toxic relationships will naturally resolve themselves. The more you practice, the easier it gets.

Believe in Yourself

Always believe in yourself. You are worthy. You deserve good things and people in your life. If you struggle with this, it’s ok. We all have moments of self doubt. It will pass.

Xoxo

Imagine Your Dreams Coming True

Just imagine all of your dreams coming true.  Seriously, take a moment right now, close your eyes and let your dream flood your consciousness.  Now open your eyes and see how much of your dream is actually part of your reality now. Don’t worry if you struggle with this part cause you can always change it.

Your dream is never out of reach

I found a gem in my email this morning.  My publisher has sent me a proof for the upcoming re-release of my previous books. It may seem like an innocuous event, but for me, it’s a dream come true.

Years ago, I wanted to be a writer. I had stories in my head, but because of the job and career I was in, I always felt that it was improper and downright silly for me to want to be a writer. Microbiology was my career and my life.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Once upon a time, I had a blog back in 2007 which was successful, but I never considered myself a writer. Not a real writer anyway. My mind and heart were closed off to the possibility of being anything else.

Years later when I discovered The Law of Attraction, I decided I needed to go for my dreams on a big level because I wasn’t happy just being a scientist. Becoming and being a writer was part of that dream so I wrote.  I started with one blog and one book. Then I started another blog (this one) and more books.  I wrote e-courses too and sold them. When I moved back to Albuquerque, I was asked to write a script for a movie (several actually) and now…I’m a writer.

Now what does my story have to do with your dream?

Had I not allowed myself to dream my dream, I would have stayed exactly where I was, in the lab.  My businesses and writing career would not exist today. Nothing in my life would have changed and I’d probably still be working in a laboratory somewhere.

The other thing I had to do was get into action which meant writing everyday.  I put myself on a serious schedule and I did just that; I wrote everyday.

All of this all started with my dream.

Now I am celebrating today because I have a publisher and a proof for a book cover. It is a dream come true for me.

I’m still dreaming too. I don’t think I’ll ever stop because I want to share with everyone what I’ve learned along the way. I have another book in the works (announcements will be made closer to the release date).

Now just imagine all your dreams coming true.

3 Reasons Why I Love Monday

In my last post, I talked about why I love Friday. As a follow up to that, I thought this post was appropriate. 3 reasons why I love Monday.

It’s the start of the week and I’m sitting here in my office with sparkles in my eyes.  Yeah, corny I know, but absolutely true. Monday is one of my favorite days of the week because the possibilities are endless for the week. I work from home and after the weekend has ended, Monday signals the beginning of my work week and as a result, I end up working more on Monday than I do any other day of the week.

Here’s why I love Monday (and why you should too)

Monday is #1

Not in the sense that it won a race and came in first, but it is the first day of the new week.  Think about it as a new beginning cause it is. Businesses reopen. Everyone is rested from the weekend. It’s #1! I love Monday because I always get so much done after slacking around all weekend and having fun.

It’s a great time to start projects

If you’ve spent your weekend partying or resting, Monday is the day to begin a new project. I usually start scripts or chapters of books on Monday because it’s when I’m the most rested and usually raring to go. The first day of the week is my powerhouse day for writing so I take advantage of it whenever I can.

It’s a great day to look forward

Not only is it a great day to start a project, it’s a great day to make plans for your week or month or whatever. The start of the week is when I chart out my week of writing and other work related duties.  I sometimes like to figure out what I’m going to do for the weekend too. Planning usually takes up a good chunk of my time on Monday and I look forward to it every week. I make plans to write, work out and do what I need to do to keep my life and business in order.

So that’s why I love Monday.

PS I’m in the process of writing a new book, one that when it’s finished, I’ll be giving away a few copies. Also, I have free gifts here on my site. If you sign up below, you can get free stuff and maybe even win a copy of my book when it comes out. All you gotta do is sign up below. Yes, it’s a mailing list, but I promise not to spam you 🙂  xoxo

4 Reasons Why I Love Friday

4 Reasons Why I Love Friday

Today’s Friday. I love Friday’s, but not for the traditional reason you might expect. The majority of people love Friday is because it’s the last day of the week, signaling 2 days off if you work a  regular 9-5 job. Friday for me is a sort of special day, but not for the aforementioned reason.

See, on Friday, I take the day off from my usually scheduled writing and I clean my entire house.

Now I didn’t always clean like I do now. Oh no..in fact, I used to detest cleaning and part of me always will because of the traditional female role as the house keeper (who came up with that silly idea is beyond me, but anyway).  Seriously, I only would clean when I absolutely had to like when my mom or dad was coming over.

At some point in my Law of Attraction studies, I read that having a clear decluttered home actually changes the energy and allows a better flow of positive energy. I didn’t believe that for one minute at the time and as a result, my house stayed a mess.

That was until I had to move 2 years ago. I decided at that point to give decluttering a try since I had too much stuff and I was on a budget for the move.  3500 lbs was all I was allowed to pack so day-by-day, I went through everything in my house and got rid of anything that didn’t serve me or I didn’t love. I wrote about it here in The Great Decluttering of 2015.

Once I moved back to New Mexico, I decided to make this decluttering and cleaning a sort of ritual which I do every week on Friday. I go through my whole house and tackle the worst areas first, then I move on to the not to bad areas and I scrub away.

I’m now a huge believer in cleaning and decluttering.

Why?

It Opens Up Energy Channels

Not just for your house, but for you too.  When your house is a mess with stuff from your past or things you don’t really use or care about anymore, it can block your energy flow (and make you feel stuck).  I never understood this concept until I experienced it first hand.

I was raised to be a packrat and to keep EVERYTHING anyone every gave me because 1, it was rude to give or get rid of a gift even if I didn’t like it and 2, I might need that thing one day for something. My house was filled with boxes and bins of stuff that I never used or even looked at for years. As I cleaned and decluttered, I felt a huge shift in energy in my home which I’d never experienced before.  I enjoyed the feeling so much, I got rid of even more stuff I didn’t use or like and wooo….more energy shift and more flow. You gotta love that!

It Invites Inspiration and Creativity

When your home is clean, you’ll find inspiration and creativity show up with ease.

My office is usually the worst space for me when it comes to cleaning because in being creative, I make messes whether I am writing or painting or sewing.  If there’s a mess in my office, I don’t want to work in there (blocked energy, anyone?) Sometimes I allow too much shit get piled up on my desks because I am working on a project or I get distracted and…

Now I make it a point to get in there and clean because I’ve found when I clean and organize the area, I usually get super inspired to finish projects that I wasn’t keen on working on before.

It Feels Good

Having a clean home feels good, emotionally, physically and spiritually. When you look around at your home and it’s clean and smells nice, it just feels good.

I always feel a sense of accomplishment and ease when I’ve finished cleaning. I sleep better and feel better overall as a result of a big cleaning expenditure.

Manifesting is Easier

One of the best things about cleaning and decluttering is you’ll find it’s easier to manifest what you want. Again, it’s about clearing the negative and blocking energies to allow for positive energies to flow. Like attracts like which is why this works.  Sounds crazy, but it’s true.  Even if you just declutter one area of your house a week, you’ll find manifesting easier.

xoxo

3 Things to Do When You’re Feeling Stuck

Are You Feeling Stuck?

In yesterday’s blog, I mentioned being stuck. You know the feeling that your life or business isn’t moving forward, you’re just sitting around waiting or doing nothing. Maybe the feeling is one of overwhelm. You’ve got too much going on and you don’t know what to do first.

First off let me tell you that you’re not alone. So many of us get stuck from time to time. It’s perfectly normal to feel like your wearing cement boots and can’t get anywhere. When your life starts to shift around, it can happen more frequently. When I started to change myself and my life, getting stuck happened a lot and I used to get so frustrated and upset. Thankfully, I learned that….

Second of all, there is something you CAN do about it. You are not powerless. Always remember that. No matter where you are, you can always do something.

So what to do?

Here are 3 powerful things you can do when you are feeling stuck

Give Yourself a Break

Feeling stuck can be the most infuriating thing in the world. You might feel that you need to power through in a frantic frenzy of action it to get out of it. The opposite, however, is true. What you may need to do is slow down and take a break from whatever it is which is making you feel stuck.

When I write, sometimes my creative flow slows down to a trickle which makes me want to push through and force myself to write. Now what happens to me if I push through and write when I am stuck, I end up with dribble all over the page and it’s just crap. Over time, I’ve learned to sit it out and wait, sometimes an hour, sometimes a day until my creative flow returns and it always does return especially after I’ve done the next thing on this list.

Feel It Out

Feel your stuckiness and listen to your intuition. Is there an old hurt that is coming back up that you haven’t let go of? Maybe you are breaking new ground in your life and you have fear which is popping up. Sit down and let yourself feel what is going on and listen to your heart. Use your intuition to get to the core of what is slowing you down.

When I get stuck, I usually have some unfounded fear about what I am doing, be it launching something new or doing something I have never done before. When I first started writing screenplays, I got stuck a lot so I had to let myself feel the fear and then release it. EFT works great for releasing fear, but if that doesn’t work, know this…

This Too Shall Pass

Being stuck never lasts forever. It may seem like it will, but I promise, it won’t.  If you have any sort of routine you do everyday, be sure to continue it through these times. Before you know it, you’ll be unstuck without having to put much effort in.

Knowing that the stuckiness will pass is so powerful. In fact, I would say that sometimes just acknowledging being stuck helps to unstick you. I can’t say definitely how this works, but it does.

Many times when I’ve been stuck, I’ve had faith that it would pass and amazingly it always has.

5 Things I Learned Being on the Road

5 Things I Learned Being on the Road

Life has unexpected turns now again like I mentioned in my last post, Life is a Rollercoaster and the last few months for me have been no exception. For most of April, I have been on the road with my beloved in a big truck which would explain why I haven’t written much here, but I have been working. I’m always working no matter where I am.

Anyway, the days on the road are long and filled with ever changing scenery. We spend 10-11 hours on the road every day, traveling from one place to another, taking stuff where it needs to go. We’ve hauled so many different types of freight, it’s been a challenge to keep track of it all. Overall, being in the truck has been somewhat of a dream come true for me. I love to travel and I’ve gotten to live in a big truck and spend 24 hours a day less than 10 feet from my love. I’ve learned a few things as well.

1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is so important not just for our bodies, but our minds too and when you are on the road, traveling hundreds of miles everyday, it’s even more important because the days can be super long.

On the first trip, I was getting up at my normal time and going to bed much later than I am used to at home.  As a result of not listening to my body, I ended up being exhausted (and quite crabby) toward the end of the trip. On this last run, I decided to change things up a bit and let myself rest when I needed meaning, if I felt tired, I crawled into the back and took a nap or just rested on the bunk.  I felt so much better and wasn’t as exhausted as I had been on previous trips.

2. Eat Well

Eating on the road has it’s challenges because there aren’t many options that don’t involved fast food or convenience store truck-stop food. Now while eating that stuff is ok on occasion, it’s gets real boring after a few days. (How many ways can you prepare a cheese burger?)  That’s not to say that you can’t find or bring options with you.

On the last trip, I decided to bring quite a bit of fruit with me to munch on instead of the standard snack foods which are super convenient in the truck.

3. Do Something You Love Everyday

Even though the days can be long, you can still do something you love everyday no matter where you are.  Maybe you like video games or reading. It really doesn’t matter what it is you do, but it has to be something you love and helps you relax.

I like to read when we’re out on the road because not only does it help me wind down after bouncing around in the truck all day, but I learn something new every time I pick up a book. Renee likes to play video games to relax.

4. Stay Connected

Just because you are miles away from the people you care about doesn’t mean you can’t stay connected.  Social media is a great way to stay in contact with the people you care about.  You can also use your phone and either text or call your friends and family.

On these last few trips, I stayed in contact with my family and friends through text messages.  My mom loves to see pictures of scenery so I’d send a few to her everyday.

5. The Law of Attraction is Always Working

No matter where you are, the Law of Attraction is still always working for you all day every day.  No matter where you are, you are always attracting things into your life so stay mindful.  Practice your meditation or intentions or whatever you do for your daily practice.

I got sort of slack with my Law of Attraction practice when we were on the road and as a result, I started feeling really stuck again. Now I’m home and I’m getting back into my practice and it feels so good. I’m also finishing up another book which I’m hoping to get released in July.

At some point, I’ll be back on the road with Renee again. We’ve had a bit of a shake up over here as far as his work goes, but it’s all good.
