For the past few weeks, my life has flown into a frenzy of homework, writing, website building, and a bunch of other stuff. I’m busy, but it’s a good sort of busy. Because I am a freelance writer, I set my schedule and work it accordingly. Now that doesn’t mean that I don’t get stressed or freak out cause I do more often than I would like, but I have a series of things that I do to calm myself down, find my focus and destress.
If you are feeling stressed or over taxed, busy and that you life is going crazy all around you, here are some things you can do right now to help you find your calm.
5 Things You Can Do Right Now To Find Your Calm
1. Take 10 Deep Breaths
Right now. No matter where you are, you can stop what you are doing, close your eyes and take 10 very deep breaths. Stuck in traffic? 10 deep breaths. Working on a project and your mind is going numb? 10 deep breaths. Kids driving you crazy? 10 deep breaths.
2. Stop What You Are Doing and Do Something Else
If you are working on a project and you start to feel like you aren’t getting anywhere with it, just set it aside and work on something else like another project. I do this all the time when I am writing and feel I am not getting anywhere with it.
3. Get up and Stretch or Move Around
If you work at a desk like most people, this one is really good. All you really need to do is stand up, walk around a bit, reach your hands over your head and stretch. If you like you can also go for a walk, maybe down the hall or outside for a minute.
4. 3 Minute Meditation
A 3 minute meditation is just that: 3 minutes of sitting or standing still and breathing. You can listen to music or a guided meditation if you like, but you don’t have to. Meditation quiets the mind which helps to quiet everything around us if we let it.
5. Drink a Glass of Water
When you are feeling stressed, drinking a glass of water helps. I don’t know the how or the why of how this works, but I always feel calmer after I drink a glass of water.
