Peace. Calm. Joy. Are they elusive or are they attainable no matter what sort of life you live? What about if you have kids?
Recently, I had the pleasure of talking to my friend, Christine, about finding joy, calm and peace as a parent amidst the rigors of our modern lives and her program, Joyful You, for mothers.
Let’s see what Christine has to say!
What is Joyful You?
Joyful You is coaching + e-courses that help busy mums find easy ways to bring joy into their parenting and everyday life, so they can raise healthy, connected kids.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your background?
I’m a coach, writer and joyful mum of two amazing boys. I studied sociology, psychology and social work in university and have been doing social work as my day job for the past 10+ years. I may be an Amazon #1 bestselling author, published in Huffington Post and elephant journal, but being a mum is the best and hardest job I’ve ever had.
Joyful parents are something that I believe everyone wishes they had or were. How did you come up with this concept? What is a Joyful Parent to you?
After I had my kids I felt really anxious and overwhelmed. Some days I was absolutely consumed by the mummy guilt. I realized I wasn’t showing up for them the way that I wanted to and that I needed to be a strong, positive role model first, before I could teach them all of the skills and qualities I wanted for them. So I did a lot of self-development work, invested in myself and made the decision to focus on joy (which is the opposite of all of those icky things I was feeling at the time.)
In my house, Joyful Parenting means mindfulness + gratitude + fun and parenting on purpose means making conscious choices, focusing on kindness and setting healthy boundaries.
What inspired you to write your e-course and start coaching women in Joyful Parenting?
I started Joyful You as a way to share what I’ve learned with other mums, because I remember what it was like to feel lost and confused. I remember crying all the time. I remember loving my kids so much and trying so hard to be a perfect parent. I remember the sleepless nights and the foggy days and feeling like it would never get better. I remember looking everywhere for answers and ending up being even more overwhelmed than before. I remember how it felt to ask for help. I remember how it felt to have someone listen to me and support me. And I remember how that changed everything.
What has been your best experience or story about Joyful Parenting? (can be your own or from a client)
One of my favourite moments was when a mum sent me a picture of her smiling baby. I loved seeing how proud she was of her family and knowing that the work we were doing together would have an impact of that sweet little face too. Best.Feeling.Ever.
What can your clients get in your Joyful Parenting Courses and Coaching?
All of my coaching packages and e-courses focus on helping mums get really clear about their goals and priorities + build their confidence and skills. They learn new healthy habits, how to set boundaries and how to communicate with their partner and kids. And in the end, mums feel more self-aware and mindful and the whole family is more connected.
What do you hope Joyful Parenting can do for others?
Joyful You is all about helping mums let go of the guilt and anxiety so they can see how amazing they are and how their imperfections make them the perfect parent for their kids. We’re all a work in progress and sometimes you need a coach or an e-course to teach you new ways of thinking that will take you to that next level.
