The Pixiedust Solution! An Interview with Natascha Ratzlaff-Dehner

So I’m taking a bit of a breather from ecourse creation so bring you another fabulous interview with another awesome and rocking entrepreneur.  Her name is Natascha and what she does as a website developer and artist over on her site The Pixiedust Solution is simply amazing (and you can hire her too!)

Let’s hear what Natascha has to say!

What is The Pixiedust Solution?

The Pixie Dust Solution is a one women web design boutique with a fairytale twist. I focus on WordPress web design, specializing in the Genesis Framework – or to say it non techy: I create beautiful digital fairytales for creative entrepreneurs who are not afraid of glitter.

What is your background? How did you get started doing web design?

That’s really a long and twisted story. I have been a nerd girl even before the Internet knew what a nerd girl was. Even before the Internet existed. I got my first computer at the tender age of 10 – and from there, it just got more intense. I made webpages with html and css long before WordPress was a thing.

But I never thought of making a business out of it. I guess the fear of not having learned things “properly” (as you do it in Germany by going to university and study it) held me back for a long time. So I dived into various other projects, and the website was always the first thing that was done.
Before the Pixiedust Solution I designed and created my own jewelry under the brand “Purple Peacock”, but after three years I came to the conclusion that a product based business wasn’t the right fit for me and my family.
And to be totally honest, the thought of spending ten hours straight at my workbench freaked me out. But time really flew by fast when I was working on the website and giving it yet another redesign.

I also teach dance, and after I made a website for my dance teaching in just one night, I had the revelation. Well, I didn’t come with bells and fairies singing and glitter slowly falling on my desk, but it hit me quiet hard: This is what I wanted to do. This was my mission: to help other creatives to get beautiful websites.

And thus, the Pixiedust Solution was born.

What inspired you to create The Pixiedust Solution?

The most things regarding computers and applications come quiet naturally to me. I have taught myself a lot about different programs I now use on a regular basis. And if I don’t know the solution to a tech-problem, I do everything to learn as much as possible and test, tweak and implement all I learn until the problem is solved.

But I have realized that what comes naturally to me isn’t natural for everybody. And that many people struggle to bring their websites to live. They try to do it by themselves but they spent too much time on it and get super frustrated by the process. And then, they hop on some website builder which leaves them with a cookie cutter site that does not reflect who they are or the beautiful things they are offering.

My mission is to help those people with my services, to give them the help they need and can afford so that they can focus on the things they love to do.

What can your customers expect when they hire you? What solutions do you offer?

My urge is to learn as much as possible about my clients and their businesses. I can only serve them best when I have a genuine understanding of what they do. It’s also super important for me that my clients feel save along the way with me. Designing a website and bringing a vision to live is something very personal and intimate, and it takes you to another level of vulnerability once you invite the world to see what you have to offer. I am there for my client, holding their hands the whole way. I don’t hide behind some strange tech talk or code.

My services at the moment include three website packages, starting from a simple landing page to a more elaborate website set up. I also offer “The Looking Glass” which is a free service for my email subscribers where they can request custom WordPress tutorials. In the future I plan to add a full blown decadent website package as well as WordPress ecourses.

Who is your typical customer?

My customers come from a wide variety of backgrounds: I have coaches from different fields (health, wellness, life) as well as product based businesses. But they all have something in common: they are passionate about their businesses and not afraid to stand out.

What is unusual or unique about The Pixie Dust Solution, in comparison to your competitors or similar businesses?

Web design follows trends, as everything else does. My approach though might be a bit unusual: instead of chasing those trends I rather create websites that truly reflect the heart and soul of the businesses and the respective owners behind those businesses.

My goal is to create unique websites that stand out and not to create yet another sleek feminine chic elegant (insert buzz-word of your choice) website that will be out of trend next season.

How would someone external describe The Pixiedust Solution?

I guess it depends on who you are asking. Some people adore my approach (they can’t get enough of the sparkles), while others don’t like it (they obviously can’t stand the sparkles). But I’m fine with that. I can’t please everybody. But I am super passionate to help those who are not afraid to sparkle.

Is there a customer experience you are most proud of?

Every client is different, so it’s hard to compare the projects I have worked on. But I guess the thing I am most proud of is that people trust me with their projects. And that they chose me to bring their websites into this world. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it.

Where can my readers find you?

Online, at The Pixiedust Solution

Is there anything else you’d like to share with my readers?

Oh this is a hard one… I think I could share so many things I have learned throughout my entrepreneurial journey.

The most valuable business advice I have gotten until now: Everything has been done before. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Don’t chase something totally new and never heard of because it doesn’t exist. The most important thing is to take this idea and make it 100 % YOU. No excuses, no apologies. Be YOU and don’t be afraid of it.
